The Demand Planner is responsible for developing and maintaining accurate demand forecasts that guide inventory planning, drive operational efficiency, and support revenue growth. This role partners closely with Sales, Marketing, Product, and Operations teams to balance supply and demand, avoid inventory surplus or shortages, and ensure a seamless customer experience.
First 30 Days – Learn & Assess
- Understand business model, product portfolio, and demand drivers.
- Review historical sales data, forecasts, and current planning processes.
- Learn forecasting tools, systems, and key KPIs (forecast accuracy, bias, service levels).
- Build relationships with Sales, Marketing, Product, Operations, and IT teams.
- Identify gaps, risks, and quick-win opportunities in forecasting and inventory planning.
Days 31–60 – Contribute & Improve
- Begin owning portions of the demand forecast and planning cycle.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align forecasts with promotions and product changes.
- Analyze forecast variances and implement initial improvements.
- Enhance reporting dashboards and improve visibility into KPIs.
- Support production planning with more accurate short- and mid-term forecasts.
Days 61–90 – Optimize & Lead
- Take full ownership of demand forecasting and planning processes.
- Improve forecast accuracy through refined models and better data inputs.
- Standardize and document demand planning processes and best practices.
- Lead cross-functional forecast alignment discussions (S&OP or similar).
- Support or contribute to system enhancements, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
